Study of a Theatre Form – ‘Commedia Del Arte’

This unit is modelled on an Achievement Standard at Level 1. It involves the exploration of the theatre forms origins, features, important figures and plays/performances. We will be:

-         Researching

-         Improvising

-         Creating Masks

-         Working with scripts

-         Devising

-         Performing

-         Communicating understandings in a written form

      Skills Involved

-         Working both independently and cooperatively.

-         Note taking.

-         Presenting.

-         Quick thinking/Thinking outside the square.

-         Interpreting scripts.

-         Identifying elements/conventions.

-         Utilizing techniques.

-         Planning and devising process.

First we need to know WHAT this theatre form is, WHERE it originated, WHO was involved, HOW it works and WHY it is one worth knowing about. This is where research comes in!

What do they often wear? What does their mask look like? What stories are they usually caught up in? All of this you need to know for THURSDAY! We are going to start planning our MASKS! Woohoo!
